Unable to find a more clever title I wear to make this post now
The fact that it is past midnight and you have a review of some 500 pages of horrifically boring books on American history from the eighteenth century, of which I have not read anything, this Wednesday and it is a sector in which neither me is doing pretty well .... xDD just details
Now, ladies and Gunsmiths, Artisans, Warriors, Squires, Pages, Monks, Lepers, Peasants, Prostitutes, Nobles, Beggars and Everything Else (xDD had to do it), as promised, I will begin with tutorials goldsmith I announced some time ago.
This method, the draft, is the most common method among the goldsmiths craft, being of the most simple and require fewer tools and expertise, but is far more versatile than it might seem at first instance . The technique involves drilling holes in a plate (I can be silver, gold, copper, bronze, nickel or whatever actually (while not extremely hard) and from these cut pieces with a saw, all the tools are mentioned in the previous entry so now I can go straight to the point
Stage by stage the matter goes something like this.
1: Design.
for this tutorial I will do something that meets most of processes, a ring, with the Scandinavian Futhark runes of 16 runes (use this because it was the only one who fit in so far xD)
first of all, to make a ring must be taken into account the extent of the finger, in all goldsmith shops sell games for all the finger measurements possible, the numbers usually come in sizes from 5 to 30 approximately. Obtner To the extent that must have stretched piece of material for a ring one takes the number of size, adds 41 (is a constant .... do not ask me that means) and then we add twice the thickness of the sheet to use (all in millimeters).
This particular ring is size 22, so the final bill will be 65 mm in silver foil.
drawing the design on paper, then cut and stick (glue stick enough) to the lamina
2: Marking This step is rather simple, take a punch and anvil on the mini ( or base metal) hitting in areas that will then be removed to allow more easily drilled after.
think I go around with the big hits but spaces that is not very important. 3: Drill
mark once everything takes a bit (preferably between 0.5 and 1) and drilling. I use a dremel, if you can do with something else, serves.
4: Calar this is the most significant part of the process, is taken and passed close by each of the holes to cut the shapes out. many holes in things like this ring is a long and horrible, but there are many simple things you can do, with very good results.
5: intermediate term Something incoherent step name ... but hey, when this all cut tend to have irregularities For this one takes the files and streamlines ... just need some patience.
6: Welding I welding is one of the highlights of the work, for this last one starts giving a flux to the workpiece (the flux is what you see atraz). The flux is a paste based on Borax and water lowers the melting temperature of the parties to maintain clean contact sections. y. .. xD that
Welding II in this part leave affirming the two silver pieces to be welded by means of these clamps and heating the piece one hand and the other holding the weld (in wire) I started to weld.
The easiest way to do is to cut small pieces of welding wire (not over 1 mm long) and deposited with tweezers in the various holes and parts of the 2 pieces in contact, followed that heats the part and usually just start taking a red a little shiny solder melts and runs through all contact sites were hit by the flux. I usually soldier
otherwise, the faster but quickly more difficult (very little actually), heat the piece is hot enough when I passed giving to the wire in the right places, hence the solder melts and runs automatically. (Welding is run by the metal, so it is not hard to realize where and where not)
7: most completions Here with the same saw to cut all the surplus and the lime gives a decent finish again
7.2 is something like
8: round pliers (or hands) a piece and it doubles match ends ... this has to be as perfect as possible
9 and 10 Weld and acid here one does the same as in previous steps, apply flux with a brush, apply solder and heat until it is all welded, eye with not very hot and will not run welding other parts of the ring, can lead to annoying imperfections in the end.
on
acid in a nutshell: While the piece is still hot after welding be thrown a bottle of sulfuric acid (diluted a bit, for security reasons) and left there a couple of minutes.
what this does is remove excess flux, which remains after welding glazed piece.
11: round II triboulette here is used, a cone bin stretching can be wood or metal, I use metal, they are more comfortable, but more expensive wooden ones are almost given away, but with time spent.
took the ring, I put it in the triboulette and the wooden hammer (or rubber) give shots until the shape
12: Aging to give the finishing touch to the ring are often used chemicals, such as this ANTIQUING silver (it will also seen at the entrance of tools)
for this I take a syringe and pulled her ANTIQUING of the bottle. The idea of \u200b\u200bdoing so esw you breathe as little as possible this thing ... first of all, has a horrible smell of putrefaction xD, plus is very volatile and slightly toxic, so it is best done outdoors.
for the liquid run the piece has to be hot, which the liquid to evaporate when you touch the metal, so they are given a few passes with the torch and start dropping drops of liquid
the result is something like this, a ring that seems lifted from a recent archaeological excavation in a swamp or something. but it is polished and perfect whole
13: Polish here can be used from polished engine, like me xD, with Dremel parts (as I did before) or by hand ... xDD little thing I recommend going through all the papers were and for having sandpaper, et caeterus.
y. .. I use here again because triboulette obvious reasons of convenience, no stains me and I burned with hot metal, that thing better xD
and good with this just after polishing all have something like this
and it is ready for the client (well, actually lack polish inside, felt cones sold to put in the polishing and polishing motor inside rings but I use the dremel nomas) ---------------------------------------- -------
and that this particular ring me a friend request for a friend of mine who had birthday and also is her boyfriend, copper tube about 20 dollars and a wide margin xD ( that decency will not mention here xD)
and the truth is that although the entry is longer, with more steps and more photos I've uploaded so far ... is not very difficult to do, Many tools are needed, yes, but you can start with very few and lso results are not very different ... there are things that not even require soldering and I think this could be done even in cooking ovens (with a little under control, nothing else)
can still be a little too specialized for the public who frequent these parts generalmetne but good knowledge and are here just to use them and have to have to start now xDD
that end?
a small count of damage to continue plagiarizing my colleagues of medievalism xDD
1: burn ... hold hot metal is a BAD idea, passed the torch by the arms .... also, for we have long hair .... fijense not pass in front of the flame ... smells very bad xD
2: cut .... Beware of finger stall happened to me xD ... (so now generally use the pliers to grip the sheet xDD, I cut with the same sheet as well, just in case ... and this time I spend a very bizarre. .. I cut the triboulette (and it is round ... but hey xD
March: several things related to acid ... turn the pot with acid, definitely a bad idea xD mainly about things, truth sulfuric acid is diluted to the extent necessary for the goldsmith does not do much damage, enough to run wet, although prolonged contact and irritate the skin as if you burned hubeiras. The acid nitric on the other hand is something different, first of all, it burns much more and much faster than the sulfuric, although up to 10 seconds can not spend anything (diluted, of course) ... that is, nothing hurts, because even though you are in contact with him for a couple of seconds nothing but the surface of the skin is white putting up with the passing of the hours passed to a shade of blue: S, of the blue goes to purple and then passing the hours that come to a purple blackish brown in which your skin is dry and flake in a couple of days
that does not hurt really, but it is quite picturesque xD.
what else? good things, it goes without saying that in the same place you use for cutting sheet metal is very bad walking barefoot .... the sharp metal fragments are not very friendly feet.
believe that there is any hope
entry has been a fruitful and can live their lives in a more integrated after reading it without further ado
Greetings and I say goodbye Goodbye
